Scott Eason

Home:   Scott is a proud Teessider, living in the North East with his wife Vickie, daughter Isobel and son Joe.

Previous career: Scott was called to the Bar in 2000 before dual-qualifying as a solicitor a few years later. Having been born and bred on Teesside Scott was acutely aware of the devastating legacy of asbestos which has affected so many lives in this former industrial stronghold and spent the early years of his career representing victims of asbestos exposure. After that and prior to joining Serenwood, Scott spent ten years as in house general counsel, director and company secretary for companies operating in the oil and gas and renewables (offshore wind) sectors.

Downtime: Scott is a first dan black belt having spent many years studying a variety of martial arts and fighting styles. This helps him enormously to forget that he is also an avid Middlesbrough supporter and season ticket holder.

Get to Know Scott Better

First ever job: A weekly paper round earning £3.50 a week, which he then spent on Hubba Bubba and mix ups in the same village store. A great business model!

First record bought: Definitely Maybe, Oasis. The best debut album ever. That’s a lot cooler than the first record bought for me, which was Leo Sayer’s One Man Band.

Favourite book:  Bounce: The Myth of Talent and the Power of Practice. I am not a big fan of novels but I do read a lot of motivational and self help books. This book echoes my attitude that it is hard work and practice rather than talent that really matters.

Favourite film: I love films and TV shows. Difficult to choose a favourite but I really like Tarantino and so I’d say Pulp Fiction, a classic cult film!

Favourite gadget: Panasonic PerfectDraft beer dispenser. Innovative!

Favourite holiday: Anything that makes the kids smile and laugh.

Luxury [he] cannot live without: My guitars. As well as the Sky+ box – live pause is vital with two kids!

What is your motto in life? Take a risk. What’s the worst that can happen?

If you were allowed one dream perk what would it be? Serenwood provides all the flexibility and work/home balance I had been looking for and so a dream perk seems greedy but if pushed I’d happily accept tickets to every major sporting event!

If you could pick a celebrity to join the Serenwood team who would it be and why?    Steve Jobs, if he were still around.  A deeply flawed genius and the most innovative and successful business leader of our era. Willing to make mistakes and go again.

Who is your role model and why? My late Grandad. The kindest, most gentle and honourable man I’ve ever known.

If Scott did not work for Serenwood, he would be… working at a law firm and wishing I weren’t! Much rather have been a footballer! Or a rock star!

What is your favourite inspirational quote? If you love life, don’t waste time, for time is what life is made up of.” Bruce Lee.

What is your superpower? Empathy. Understanding how businesses and relationships work, and being able to grow and build those relationships.
